Wild Flower Honey

from Apis cerana bees
Bhutanese Wild flower honey is extracted from the combs of the Himalaya bee Apis cerana. The "honey bee of the east" lives in close relation with local communities for thousands of years.

Bees are traditionally kept in log hives attached to rural houses. Beekeeping is an important component of agricultural farming systems of southern Bhutan. The honey is extracted twice per year, during monsoon in July and before the onset of winter in November.
Wild Flower Honey is characterized by a high pollen content due to traditional extraction process.
This honey is used as a home remedy by the people of Bhutan.
Beekeeping of local bees is supported by:
  1. The Beekeeping Association of Bhutan BEEKAP
  2. The Local Capacity Building Program of the Netherlands Development Cooperation SNV
  3. United Nations Development ‚small grants program’ (GEF)
